In 2024, Newell Brands welcomed 46 students from 25 colleges across the U.S. and Canada to Newell Brands’ Career Acceleration and Mentorship Program (CAMP). Each intern took on a Career Acceleration Main Project – an initiative they owned for twelve weeks and presented to company leaders at the end of the program. Every intern also had a manager and mentor to support them throughout their time at Newell, and opportunities to contribute to significant projects, participate in volunteer events and virtual and in-person networking activities, and gain meaningful experience. We spoke to some of our interns from this summer about their experience.
Q: Tell us about your role at Newell Brands. What does your team do? What do you do in your internship?
Arya, Information Delivery Analytics and AI Intern: “I am the Information Delivery Analytics & AI Intern of the Information Delivery Team (IDT). Our team is responsible for providing our business partners with timely data and PowerBI reports and creating data analytic solutions here at IDT. As the intern, I’m tasked with ultimately finding out how CoPilot for PowerBI can benefit our current practices for all things data.”
Spencer, Marketing Intern: “I am a Marketing Intern working to support the launch of the Yankee Candle® brand in Canada. Despite being a Marketing Intern, my manager works in Customer Strategy & Planning (CSP), so I get much exposure to the CSP team.”
Alyson, Brand Management Intern: “I am with the Paper Mate® brand team on the Brand Activation side. My team works to activate marketing and advertising for Paper Mate, continue innovation with Paper Mate products, and support cross-functional teams in delivering Paper Mate products to consumers efficiently.”
Sofia, Research & Development Intern: “The Calphalon® group in Huntersville, NC, tests current products to ensure they consistently meet our standards and develops new cookware lines. For my internship, I am researching new testing methods to determine the nonstick performance of coatings for pans.”
Q: What motivated you to pursue an internship at Newell and in your field?
Spencer: “A significant part of my initial interest in marketing was the prospect of working with major brands, so getting to see behind the scenes at a company as iconic as Newell has been extremely interesting and fulfilling.”
Sofia: “I had multiple great experiences meeting current Newell employees during events at school organized by campus recruitment. I connected with them and liked how they described working at Newell.”
Q: What is a specific project, task, or event you have found valuable, impactful, or exciting in your internship?
Arya: “During my third week here, I had the chance to present my CoPilot for PowerBI findings to the Information Delivery Team vice president. It was the first moment of my life where I saw how my work could have that much impact.”
Alyson: “My intern project, which is doing research for a potential product line expansion, has been very fulfilling and exciting to work on. It has allowed me to dip my toe into all the most important parts of working on the brand team.”
Q: Our values—Teamwork, Integrity, Leadership, Ownership, and Passion for Winning—drive our high performance, innovative and inclusive culture at Newell. Which value do you identify with the most in your internship and beyond?
Arya: “I will always prioritize Teamwork. While guidance is important, a leader cannot be a leader without a team willing to cooperate and follow through with tasks.”
Spencer: “Engaging in more cross-functional work has enabled me to meet countless people I would not have otherwise, and my experience has been greatly improved as a result. As such, I feel connected to the company and to the value of Teamwork.”
Alyson: “The value I identify with most is Teamwork. Having a support system to ask for guidance, bounce ideas off of, and collaborate with is extremely important for producing the best work possible.”
Sofia: “The value of Ownership has resonated with me the most during my internship because I have been encouraged to take ownership of my project.”
We thank our 2024 interns for their valuable contributions to our company and the consumers we serve around the world!
